| Hubbardston is in the northeast quarter of Rutland, and was incorporated in 1767 and named for Thomas Hubbard. commissionary general province of mass. the towns early economy was based on agriculture and small chair, boot, and shoe manufacturing. Historians dexcribe as a poor town, but having sawmills, potash works and cottage industires ,such as the making of palm leaf hats. by the 19th century dairy and berry farmer manufacturing, were major pursuits in this town, immigrants from ireland, france, canada, england, sweden, and finland moved to town to become farmers. |
