Hunyadi Castle or Corvin Castle (Romanian: Castelul Huniazilor, Castelul Corvine?tilor) is located in the western part of Romania, in the Hunedoara municipality.The castle is one of the most representative Gothic buildings in Transylvania. It is located in the central-southern zone of Romania, more precisely in the Hunedoara region.Hunyadi Castle was built by the Angevin family on the site of a former Roman camp and served as a fortress until the mid-14th century, when it became the seat of the Transylvanian ruler JÃ¡nos Hunyadi. The castle was originally given to Hunyadi's father, Wojk, as a severance pay from the Hungarian king Sigismund, in 1409. The fortress consists of a series of rectangular halls, which are connected by circular and rectangular towers, used for defense and as prison cells. The gallery and the last defense tower, which has remained unchanged since the time of JÃ¡nos Hunyadi, as well as the Capistrano Tower, are some of the most significant parts of the structure.
