Humayun’s Tomb, located in Delhi, India, was the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent. It inspired several major architectural innovations, culminating in the construction of the Taj Mahal. Humayun’s tomb is one of the best preserved Mughal monuments. The building is constructed from red sandstone and is crowned with a white Persian style marble dome. The architecture of the mausoleum has details from both Persian architecture and Indian architectural traditions. The tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993.Humayun’s Tomb is part of a large complex that includes other Mughal structures: Nila Gumbad, Isa Khan, Bu Halima, Afsarwala, Barber’s Tomb and the complex where the craftsmen employed for the building of Humayun’s Tomb stayed, the Arab Serai.
