Melanoma is not strictly for skin, it can be anywhere in the body. It is in this case brown and found in the uterus of a rat. The stain (Masson's trichrome) did not highlight the offending structure. Normally the trichrome stain is to let muscle (red) and collagen (blue) be seen. The nuclei have also been stained purple. The melanin in this case may be just melanin. This tissue has not been sent to the pathologists and therefore not determined to be melanoma. I suspect that it is.
