Calcium deposits can be also be viewed by staining the tissue with an hematoxylin and eosin stain. This is the same kidney section as the alizarin red picture but with a different stain. Abnormalities such as calcium may be diagnosed more accurately using special staining or IHC's on the same section to verify possible issues. Can you pick out the calcium? The glomerulus is close by.
