Founded in 1882 as the Arabian Coffee and Spice Mill, in a still at the location of the United Nations Plaza today, by brothers Austin; Rubin and Ernest Hills. In 1906, after Ernest left, they incorporated as Hill Bars. and in 1926 moved to this complex at 2 Harrison Street. R.W., as Ruben is know, is the one who first introduces vacuums packaging in 1900, to keep air out of the containers, for longer shelf life. R.W.`s process of vacuum packaging is still used today, over many packaged items. nThe tower, besides adding to the esthetics of the building, the gravity helped the beans blending. The building was closed in 1997 and now houses numerous other businesses as well as the San Francisco campus of the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. nThe building is now a San Francisco Landmark. Double arched entryway.
