Hammersmith Bridge is a gravity-anchored chain suspension and road bridge crossing the Thames. Designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette and opened in 1827, its bridge deck is suspended from the chains on wrought iron hangers. The bridge has undergone seeral structural repairs and have been a subject for bomb attacks. The current bridge is the second permanent bridge on the site.
