The George Sterling Park in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco is most notable for the Alice Mable Tennis Court. This park at the top of Russian Hill, named for an all but forgotten, once great San Francisco bohemian poet and writer, is much more than that. In addition to the great views, there are also great spots to just relax. Alice Marble, who excelled at almost every sport she tried, and she tried a lot, initially wanted to be a baseball player, then her brother handed her a tennis racket. She didn't like it at first, she was practicing and playing in Golden Gate Park, yet she went on to become the top player in her time. She then went on to integrate the game, and while working at DC Comics, helped to create the Wonder Woman caricature. As enjoyed 18 December 2024.
