The front gate was constructed in front of the ascension Church in the years 1672-1673. The facades of the building are decorated with a bright Baroque red and white decor, for this reason, the gate is often called Red. The first tier is decorated with two arches, a small one for pedestrians and a larger one for carriages. On each side of this gate were four wooden lions, covered with skins on top. Inside the Royal animals, mechanisms were installed, thanks to which the lions roared in a terrible way and their eyes rolled. The mechanisms of this `curiosity` were made by a talented Russian master Pet Vysotsky. Unfortunately, the `monsters` did not survive to this day. On both sides of the Front gate are chambers: on the right – the Colonel`s, here during the reign of Alexey Mikhailovich was located the headquarters of the regiment that guarded the Palace, and on the left-the Command chambers, that is, the Palace office. These buildings currently are located the Museum exposition.
