Merangin Jambi Geopark is an Early Permian Flora and Fauna Fossil Heritage that reveals the existence of 300 million year old trees and marine fossils in the Merangin River with a layer thickness reaching 500 meters, the only relic like this that still exists in the world. The Merangin Jambi Geopark area also has a karst complex with a variety of landscapes, including exokarst and endokarst that preserve traces of the past. The Mount Masurai complex, which was formed from volcanic tectonic activity, creates various natural phenomena such as lakes, waterfalls, columnar fractures, and geothermal energy that is still active. In this area there is a habitat for rare protected flora and fauna as well as historical sites from ancient civilizations. All of this geological wealth is available in the Merangin Jambi Geopark which covers an area of around 4,832.31 km². In 2023 this area was designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG).
