The ciliary muscle is an intrinsic muscle of the eye forming a ring of smooth muscle fibers in the eye's uvea. It controls accommodation for viewing objects at varying distances changing the shape of the lens. The micrograph shows many fascicles of smooth muscle fibers separated by a stroma with abundant pigmented cells
