Erpel is located at the Rhine south of Bonn, opposite of Remagen. The famous bridge of Remagen was the last Rhine bridge standing in world war 2. The battle of Remagen was a key battle for this bridge. The bridge collapsed a few days after the allies conquered it. Both the west towers in Remagen and the est towers in Erpel are still standing. The story was covered in a motion picture in the 1960s. The east tower was sold a few years ago.
