The Sierra Leone-flagged, EDRO III, has remained stranded in the sea caves area of Paphos since December 8, 2011. Nicos Attas, a marine surveyor from the department of merchant shipping told the Cyprus Mail that until now, all suggestions to remove the ship from the area had fallen flat. This includes proposals by private initiatives. ââ¬ÅA divers association had the idea to re-float the ship and move it to another position further out to sea, submerge it and use it as an artificial reef. Over the months, we have heard a number of different scenarios for the ship but no movement.ââ¬Â The ship remains stuck even after a recent spate of bad weather which saw large waves batter the Paphos coastline. Attas noted that over a year ago and a half ago, all oily waste such as lubricants, fuel and solid waste was removed and discharge waste and pollutants cleared. He added that as there is no imminent risk of pollution, there is no sense of political urgency to move it.
