Brown Bluff is a type of volcano known as a tuya. It is rare because it is formed originally under an ice sheet. When the volcano erupted under the ice sheet, the lava stacked up in what we call pillow lavas. The cone was formed when the icesheet melted, and therefore the volcano has a special shape.
