The dungeons of the Chillon castle on Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) in Switzerland made famous in Lord Byron's poem The Prisoner of Chillon. In these dungeons François Bonivard, a supporter of the Reformation was held prisoner by the Duke of Savoy from 1530 until 1536. Lord Byron's poem speaks of him. The metal frame on the right pillar protects the signature Byron etched into the pillar. |
