| The church of San Francesco or sanctuary of the Eucharistic Miracle is located in Corso Roma in Lanciano, in the province of Chieti. Inside, it contains the famous relics of the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano. The original building is the convent of Saints Legonziano and Domiziano, which today forms the foundations of the new Franciscan convent of the 13th century. According to tradition, it was built on the remains of an ancient church erected on the site where the Lanciano centurion Longinus was killed, the one who converted after having pierced the side of Christ on the cross. |
