| On the banks of the River Tagus estuary stands the Monument to the Discoveries. The monument was conceived in 1939 by Portuguese architect Jos̩ ̉ngelo Cottinelli Telmo, and sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida. Whilst supposed to be temporary, it still stands as a reminder to the voyages of Columbus, to this day |
