Photo of Confederate position which was under the command of general A.P. Hill near Burnside Bridge in Maryland. This position shelled Union troops after they successfully crossed Burnside bridge. With the Union's advance stopped the Confederates were able to successfully retreat to Virginia. This marked the end of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War.
