Common Field or Flanders Poppy - Papaver rhoeas after Morning Rain. This intensely coloured herbaceous species of wildflower is a common sight on disturbed agricultural and waste land. After World War 1 it symbolised the passing of soldiers who had died in battle, especially on the fields of Flanders in France. And is often seen on road verges and field margins. It is commonly worn on Remembrance Day on the 11th of November in the UK and several European countries. Though fragile looking it is a strikingly vibrant plant flowering in June through August.
