| Pictured is the Cathedral of Pienza overlooking the main square, Piazzo Pio II in Pienza, Italy. The building was commissioned by Pope Pius II, designed by Bernardo Rosellino, and consecrated in 1462 by the Pope himself. The facade is all in pale travertine, divided in pillars and blind arches with columns and pilasters. High up on the gable is the coat of arms with the emblem of the Holy See of Pius II Piccolomini. The historic center of Pienza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. |
