Castor bean plants, which are not beans at all, are commonly grown in the garden for their striking foliage as well as shade cover. Commonly found in the wild along river banks and low lying areas. They are fast growing and can grow up to fifteen feet tall. They like full sun and humid, moist conditions. All parts of the plant are toxic, especially the seed. They should not be grown around children and pets. The toxins do not pass on to the oil.
