Neuschwanstein in Bavaria is a castle in Hohenschwangau near Füssen in the Allgäu, built in the second half of the 19th century by (later declared insane) King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It is the most famous landmark of Louis II and with around 1.3 million visitors per year, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany. The construction was started in 1869 by Ludwig.
