| Pictured is a bronze bust of the great American jazz muscian Sidney Bechet in a square named after him in Juan Les Pins, France. His playing style was intense and passionate and had a wide vibrato. He was also known to be proficient at playing several instruments and a master of improvisation both individual and collective. Bechet liked to have his sound dominate in a performance, and trumpeters found it difficult to play alongside him. The french sculptor was Abel Chretien. Bechet was born in 1897 in New Orleans and died in 1959 of lung cancer in Garches, near Paris, France. |
