Burmese people waiting train and selling product at railway station in Bago, Myanmar. Bago formerly Pegu, is a city and the capital of Bago Region in Myanmar (Burma). It is located 50 miles (80 km) north-east of Yangon. Bago (formerly Pegu) is the capital city of Bago Division in the Irrawaddy region of Myanmar. On the main road between North and South Myanmar, this is a highly noisy and trafficked town. From Yangon, leave in the morning by taxi (US$40-50), or by bus (from the corner of Strand and Sule Pagoda Road and also from the Aung Mingalar Bus Terminal), or by train (US$4 upper class, US$1 for ordinary seat, all Mandalay and Mawlamyine bound trains stop there). A taxi is the best because youll need one to see the sights in Bago (which are quite far apart) and you can stop at Taukkyan on the way.
