Botanical Building in Balboa Park, San Diego, California, which contains a botanical garden, is reflected into a reflecting pond filled with water lilies and other plants. Balboa Park is an urban cultural center and a popular tourist destination. Home to the 1915 Panama-California Exposition marking the opening of the Panama Canal and the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition, many of the buildings were declared a National Historic Landmark and National Historic Landmark District, and have been placed in the National Register of Historic Places. The park's site was placed in reserve in 1935, making it one of the oldest such sites in the United States dedicated to public recreational use. The park contains a number of museums, theaters, gardens, and the famous San Diego Zoo.
