The Grand Hotel is a hotel located in Jiantan Mountain, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan. The hotel was built in May 1952, and the main building was completed on October 10, 1973. It is Taiwan's leading large-scale international five-star hotel and the world's leading hotel. It is one of the tallest Chinese classical buildings in the world and has received many foreign dignitaries visiting Taipei since its opening. The original site of the Grand Hotel was a Taiwanese shrine built by the Japanese during the Japanese colonial period. Since it is located on the top of Jiantan Mountain, which protrudes above the Taipei Basin, it has an excellent location in terms of Feng Shui. The roof of the hotel uses a mountain-top style. There are quite a lot of dragon-shaped carvings on the hotel's architecture, so some people call the hotel the Dragon Palace. In addition to dragon-shaped carvings, there are also patterns commonly used in Chinese architecture such as stone lions and plum blossoms.
