The LÃ¼neburg town hall is a storyteller, administrative headquarters, landmark and jewel all in one. With its 259 rooms, it is one of the most outstanding architectural monuments in northern Germany and is the largest medieval town hall in the north. Construction of our town hall began around 1230 and has been rebuilt and expanded over the centuries. Thanks to its 700-year history, traces from various eras have been left throughout the town hall: the courtroom, prince s hall, old archive, chancellery and mayor s chamber date from the Gothic and Renaissance periods. Masterful woodwork adorns the large council chamber, which is one of the largest Renaissance halls in Germany. The homage hall and the market facade date from the Baroque period. In the tower there is a clockwork with a carillon made of Meissen porcelain.
