Early one morning a female Hippopotamus gave birth to her baby not 100 yards from the Mara River, Masai Mara, Kenya. Hippos normally give birth in water or very dense cover. This new Mother had been feeding on the grasses of the savanna overnight and not made it back to the tree line or river before the baby came. The afterbirth is still hanging from her.
