Bird`s nest fern Asplenium nidus, syn .: A. ficifolium Goldm., Thamnopteris nidus L. C. Presl., Neottopteris rigida Feé is a popular fern species as a yard ornamental plant. The Sundanese call it kadaka, while in Javanese it is known as kedakah. Its natural distribution is in the tropical belt of the Old World East Africa, tropical India, Indochina, Malesia, to the islands of the Pacific Ocean. Although in this article bird`s nest ferns are equated with A. nidus, the results of recent studies indicate the possibility of revision, that bird`s nest ferns includes several different but closely related species. [1] [2] A. australasiaticum is also often considered to be a bird`s nest fern.
