A close view of an exterior tower window, part of the Duomo of Trento. The stone embellishments include unusual knotted columns and two griffons standing watch. The Romanesque cathedral contains many architectural details, with additions during the past 800 years. The original ancient church was founded in the 11th century, then raised and rebuilt in 1212 in the Lombard-Romanesque style. The cathedral hosted the infamous Council of Trent between the years of 1545 and 1563.
