| Ostia was a city in Latium vetus, a port for the city of Rome, which currently lies near the mouth of the Tiber River.The ruins of the city were excavated starting in the early 19th century under Pius VII and continued in the same century under Pius IX. Numerous residential buildings and industrial structures, along with public monuments, have survived, making it an important testimony to ancient daily life. |
