The magnificent baroque altar of Basilica Duomo di San Vigilio, the Duomo of Trento, Italy, is based on the work of Bernini, was added in 1739 and features a golden baldachin canopy decorated with cherubs and marble spiral columns. The original ancient church was founded in the 11th century, then raised and rebuilt in 1212 in the Lombard-Romanesque style. The cathedral hosted the infamous Council of Trent between the years of 1545 and 1563.
