The Three Crosses Square (Polish: Plac Trzech Krzyży) is an important square in the central district of Warsaw. In the Square stands the neoclassical St. Alexander's Church, designed 1818–25 by the Polish architect Chrystian Piotr Aigner. In 1886–95 the church was rebuilt in Neo-Renaissance style, resulting in a much larger building with two towers and a large dome. During the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 the square and most of the surrounding buildings, including the church, were destroyed or deliberately demolished by Germans. After 1945 the church was rebuilt to its 19th-century initial appearance. The square takes its present name from three crosses: one on St. Alexander's Church, and two on columns facing the church's entrance.
