Morning in a village near Konso in Southern Ethiopia. A man spends his time slowly by sitting under a tree and smoking his pipe. Konso villages are special. They are divided into nine compounds linked to different Konsos clans. According to local tradition every 18 years people raise the so-called generation poles on a ceremonial square.
