South Africa-born Abba Eban became one of Israel`s founding fathers. His oratorical skills served his adopted country well on a variety of missions such as Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador to the United Nations, and Foreign Minister. He was also a scholar of Hebrew and Arabic. A social and political liberal, he represented the Labor for many years in the Knesset. Here he is seen addressing a conference of the New Israel Fund, a body striving for economic and social justice for all Israelis. Born Abba Solomon Eban, the silver-tongued orator died at 87 on November 2, 2002.
