Easter Island (Rapa Nui) is an small island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, west of and administered by Chile. The island, first settled by Polynesians in about 400AD, is famous for its large monolithic statues (Moai) that are believed to date from 1000 to 1600AD. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
